[CASE STUDY] Hydraulic Torque Tools Used In Refinery Plant Turnaround

The old saying goes: “Time is money, and money is time.” This is certainly true for refinery and petrochemical plant shut downs, both scheduled and unscheduled.

Hydraulic torque wrenches are widely used during these times that refiners are “off line” for maintenance and upgrades. These wrenches can weigh anywhere from 10 to 80 lbs., which left one of Maxpro’s clients – an industrial contractor working for a petrochemical company in Delaware — with a dilemma: They needed to have the wrenches calibrated, but the cost & time of packing and shipping 30 hydraulic torque wrenches from Delaware to our lab in Horsham would be too high.

Fortunately, this contractor was able to use Maxpro’s mobile calibration service on its wrenches. “It was just way more cost effective to send our calibration and service van to the site,” said Maxpro President Tom Macey. “We calibrated all the wrenches in their parking lot in two days.”

By utilizing our mobile service and calibration lab, contractors can avoid the cost of shipping, down time and the risk of lost or damaged equipment. “We utilized Maxpro’s A2LA / ISO 17025 accredited calibration van to calibrate our hydraulic torque wrenches on site,” the Delaware contractor said. “This was a great time and cost saver for our company.”

Our van can handle any make, model or brand of torque equipment. We will typically drive anywhere within a two-hour radius of our Philadelphia-area lab.

Maxpro’s repair technicians’ areas of expertise include:
