When to Use a Hydraulic Torque Wrench

hydraulic torque wrenchPower plants. Steel mills. Pipelines.

These are some of the places where you’ll find hydraulic torque wrenches hard at work.

Hydraulic torque wrenches operate using a pump driven by either electric or pneumatic power. They are industrial strength wrenches able to exert a powerful amount of torque to a large bolt head.

With pneumatic and electric wrenches, the power source is part of the tool. But with hydraulic wrenches, the power source is at the pump, so the wrench itself is able to fit into a much tighter space. When you need a tool that is small and versatile, a hydraulic torque wrench is your choice.

They have capacities of up to 100,000 ft/lbs, and are very precise tools, with an accuracy range of plus or minus three percent, and a repeatability of plus or minus one percent.

MaxPro carries hydraulic torque wrenches in square drive and low profile models.

Square drive wrenches are widely used due to their versatility and durability. They work with any industrial socket, making them a popular choice with millwrights and maintenance and mechanical workers in the power generation, quarry, construction, steel and paper industries.

When it comes to torque tools, no other products provide as much torque output with such a limited height tool as low profile hydraulic wrenches. These tools do not require sockets, as the integral “cassette link” is attached to the piston that goes over the nut or bolt head. Again, these are great tools for situations whether other torque tools won’t fit. You’ll find them fastening pipeline flanges and at work in chemical plants and refineries due to their size and light weight.

Since 1993, Maxpro has developed a reputation as a dependable provider of torque controlled and calibrated industrial tools like the wrenches described above, as well as other torque products. We provide torque products for sale or rental.

We are also an accredited calibration and certification laboratory, calibrating torque wrenches, torque transducers, torque multipliers and pressure gauges. Last year, we achieved ISO 17025 accreditation for all of our torque tools.
