Industrial Bolting Tool Applications for the Wind Turbine Industry

Wind_turbines.jpgThe wind turbine industry is going to take off over the next few decades.

According to projections from the U.S. Dept. of Energy, total wind power capacity will increase from 113.43 gigawatts in 2020 to 404.25 gigawatts by 2050.

And that’s good news for the bolting industry, whose precision torque tools are necessary to keep wind turbines turning. There are a lot of bolts on the average wind turbine – approximately 1,500 by some counts – which means the need for precise-yet-durable tools.

Among those tools are precision torque wrenches from E-RAD, the system of choice for professionals in the wind turbine industry.

These industrial bolting tools are designed to provide a high degree of accuracy (+/- 2.8 percent) and repeatability (+/- 2 percent). The combination of a patented gear box design and the precision of an electric AC Servo motor allows these tools to deliver smooth continuous torque. They are also capable of torque and angle sequence.

This is the most affordable system on the market, featuring enhanced traceability for data collection.

Among Their Other Features:

  • They’re lighter, with an unrivaled power-to-weight ratio that eliminates the need to move heavy hydraulic pumps, thus eliminating operator fatigue.
  • They’re faster. Compared to hydraulic wrenches, the E-RAD decreases the time it takes to tighten bolts by as much as 300 percent by delivering smooth and continuous torque.
  • They’re versatile, with a torque range of 800 to 15,000 ft./lbs.
  • They’re much quieter than other torque systems, operating at 75 dB.

Maxpro is proud to sell or rent E-RAD tools to the wind turbine industry and to any industry where heavy duty tools are required.

We’re also ready to calibrate E-RAD electric torque wrenches or any other torque tool in our state-of-the-art, A2LA-accredited calibration lab. Contact us today to learn more how about how we can help you complete your next wind turbine project.
